Thomas Salzano, a New Jersey-based expert hairstylist, traveler, photographer, and blogger lives by the words of Zen scholar Lao Tzu. Lao Tzu said, “Mastering others is a strength, mastering yourself is true power.” In the present world, these words hold truer than ever before. With a salon so popular and the variety of customers that he tends to, Salzano would easily find himself at his wit’s end every other day.
Self-awareness, Salzano says, is what keeps him calm under all circumstances. He credits all his success and ability to steer through tough times to self-awareness. Self-awareness, Thomas says, is the ability to see oneself objectively. The ability to know one’s own strengths and weaknesses, and instead of letting them guide you, you become a master of your own emotions. You start responding instead of reacting, and things start falling into place a just bit more easily. But then, one asks: How to unlock the doors to self-awareness? Salzano has the answers:Perceive Yourself Objectively: It’s tough, and that makes it even more so important, remarks Salzano. See what you are good at, where you need to improve. Think of your accomplishments that really matter. Jot Your Day Down: Writing your day in a journal gives you a chance to introspect. It’s something that we all should do, but few are able to continue the streak. Mindfulness Meditation: Meditation brings you in the moment, the present and that’s where the key to serenity lies. Past breeds regret and anger, future brings anxiety, and the moment right now, it brings peace. Exercise: Even if you do high-intensity workout for 15 minutes, your body releases happiness hormones that again, make you more aware of yourself. Thomas Salzano has been doing the above mentioned for many tears, and his calm demeanor is a sure sign of this. Incorporate these habits in your life, and be the person you want to be.
